Tech support scams typically involve somebody calling you or emailing you to say there’s some kind of problem with your account regardless their goal is to install software on your computer that lets them control it remotely.
If an attacker gets access to your computer via remote desktop software, they can literally do anything on your computer as you say you’re logged into your crypto wallet account on that computer the attackers could go to that page and send all of your crypto to their address.
One must never allow anyone to access their account especially when you get contacted by someone and they say they need you to download software in order to do some troubleshooting that’s a very big red flag.
Where companies have a phone or number listed on their website that’s the correct number to call if it’s your credit card company or a bank this should typically be on the back of your credit card or on the back of your debit card.
Don’t feel obligated to act in the moment just be absolutely sure that when you’re talking to somebody it’s actually official support and even if you are tricked in talking to somebody whoever you’re talking to never give up your credentials never send money off site just because you’re told to and never ever give somebody access to your computer so that they can supposedly help you out.
The main way to identify if something is a scam or not is are they pressuring you to do something right away. Scammers will try pressure tactics such as saying it’s an emergency we need you to move your funds to this address they’re relying on you panicking or thinking that your account is compromised.
Attackers are prying on two things; your hope and your fears. So if something seems really good it’s probably a scam and if you’re really afraid by something it’s also probably a scam.
